The Barcode Scanner app has been downloaded more than 1 crore times from the Google Play Store. Meanwhile, many users around the world, including many Indians, have complained about the virus attack on Barcode Scanner. And then it was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store.
Malwarebytes writes in their report, ‘Since the end of December we have received a distress call from users on our forum. Users complained to us that ads were running automatically in their default browser. Importantly, none of these users have recently downloaded any apps. But the apps that were downloaded automatically were not downloaded from the Play Store again.
And this is where the question arises. For those who haven’t downloaded an app from the Google Play Store lately, the new app is on their phone, and it hasn’t been downloaded from the Play Store again. The first to notice the issue is a Barcode Scanner user, whose username is Anon00. He told Malwarebytes, ‘For a long time an ad has come up several times in the Barcode Scanner app. Shortly after clicking on that ad, I noticed that I had no control over the phone. ‘ And then a complaint was lodged in the Play Store and the virus was immediately detected and deleted from the Google Play Store.
According to the report, all the users who downloaded the Barcode Scanner app in December, got this terrible virus in their phones. Because, in December 2020, the Barcode Scanner app turned into a malicious app. According to several previous reports, the company rolled out a special update to the Barcode Scanner app on December 4, 2020. It is alleged that the update contained a complete virus. It was later proved that as a result of virus attack on the mobile of different users. This app update had a code called Android/Trojan.HiddenAds.AdQR, which was redirecting users to third-party ad sites from the default browser on their smartphones.
Now the question is, what is the way to survive this virus attack? If you already have the Barcode Scanner app on your phone, delete it now. Without it, you will not be able to download the Barcode Scanner app from the Play Store now, because it has been removed.
