Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus Hotstar all OTT platforms will now be controlled by the government. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting now has government jurisdiction over OTT Platform just like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video. Such as the Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos and Disney Plus Hotstar three streaming platform and online news platforms, the Cabinet Secretariat said in a notification on Monday.
Earlier, there was no government agency that controls the content of digital media platforms. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting has said earlier that it was very necessary.
And other platforms for online and TV content are regulated by the “Press Council of India, News Broadcasters Association, Advertising Standards Council of India and Central Board of Film Certification”.
Ram Nath Kobind signed a new amendment
On November 9, Honorable President of India “Ram Nath Kobind” signed a new amendment to the Government of India (Business Allocation) Rules, 1961, which added two lines to the scope of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

These additions are followed by “V Films” Government of India Division (Business Allocation) Rules 1971 [PDF, p. 98]. Online content providers and online news platforms have now moved under the regulatory framework of cable and television, All India Radio and Doordarshan as well as I&B. Just two weeks ago, I&B Minister “Prakash Javadekar” gave an indication that the Indian government could control online platforms.
